long summer days

When you're busy doesn't time fly? When you are busy and tired, boy, does it pass slowly. It is the busy, tired stage today. Our baking lady, who incidentally also helps me in the kitchen, has taken time out to marry her long standing fiance. Nothing wrong in nuptials but at this time of year it has put a strain on everyone, which has been exasperated by a dose of summer ailments that has been passing amongst out younger team members.

It's one of the joys of being self employed, long hours, few days off & all the hassle! Wouldn't change it for the world, but 4 weeks paid holiday does seem rather nice.

The world and his wife, plus children & grandparents are now out & about in force. This is great, because l would think, most UK tourism of whatever description has taken a broadside thanks to the blurdey awful early summer weather.

Travel has become a real headache, for example, unless you set off early for Brid now, by mid-morning 6 mile tailbacks greet the desperate car driver. Road rage & accidents are common place. What is the point of over taking queue of slow moving traffic when you really aren't going to get to your destination any faster?

Well, we are now half way through the month, so provided the weather holds, [please, please, please,] we should be getting busier with each passing day, building to a climax over the bank holiday weekend, then, ah such luxury, peace will return heralded in by September.

Gordon has asked that l show his swimming prowess whilst clutching a plastic bottle!

what a gorgeous dog! i wish riley would learn to swim. he's part lab, so he should be a natural, but he learned to shun water from the border collie.

if i were over there, i'd stop by for an ice cream. and maybe help you with the washing up a bit.(i'm good at that.) let you put your feet up a while.

Oooh yes, four weeks paid holiday would be fabulous.... but then it's good to be busy (aaghh, the nightmore of being self-employed). Great swimming, Gordon!

It's a shame for self-employed people. They really need holidays but tend not to take them. I'm not self employed but I don't relax enough. I need to do a bit more of it.

Do they know how to overtake tractors when it's clear to do so? I reckon the tourists round here are too scared to. Grrrr.

Gordon is gorgeous.

Gordon the swimming trick dog - he's brilliant!!
I know what you mean about 4 weeks paid holiday! I contract, so when I'm 'off' I'm also unpaid (ouch!)and four weeks holiday in January means I have to hire someone to cover for me.
Anyway, it sounds as though August might make up for your awful July - I hope so!

I've said before I really take my hat off to you for dealing with the public - I wish you a very prosperous season and a rest at the end of it as a reward. It did remind me that it's an awful long time since Tom and I had a holiday, I know to others our life's a breeze but we're still trying to earn a crust here - wouldn't swap it for the four weeks paid though!

It's nice to "build up to a climax" and then enjoy the peace that follows. I never thought the homemade ice cream business could be so sexy! And what's this about four weeks paid hoiliday? Try twelve if you're a teacher! Ha! Ha!

On a major catch up! Crossing fingers and willing you all on - have no idea if it really helps but as they say it's the thought that counts! Love the cow pat!

The lot of the self employed. No one would ever do it if they actually worked out what they earn per hour.
F&M - another nail in the coffin of agriculture? I used to laugh when my other half claimed a conspiracy theory, but I'm starting to agree with him. I think the Farmer here is considering the future of his cattle, having discovered how much less stressful life is without sheep!
