bank holiday approaches

It's nearly the end of August. Where have the summer months gone, june & july. Have l blinked & missed them or has something more sinister been taking place?

I think l can safely say that this summer has been as total wash out, damp squib, non-starter. No warm sunshine, no blue skies & no hosepipe ban. Can this be England? Have we been sucked into a time vacum or vortex & returned to the good old damp summers of yesteryear? Has anyone seen the Doctor of late? Is he still in Cardiff? Ah well, no use in becoming a moan-a-holic, perhaps next year the weather will be better.........

Bank holidays drive me, as they say, nuts. Why does everything close down for 3 days? well not exactly everything. Why do people go do-lally buying food for the next Great Famine, piling shopping trolleys to overflowing with food that will, more than likely, end up in next week's rubbish collection? It is well & truly beyond me.

Look at the roads this evening, caravans. Caravans EVERYWHERE. All heading to the coast armed with their air conditioning, satellite TV, barbies, wind breaks.............. I will admit to having a 5 pitch CL site here, and well, we are full for this weekend Have been fully booked for months. The phone is still ringing, hopeful caravaner's looking for that all elusive pitch for the bank holiday.

So for the next few days we will be battening down the hatches & going into 'survival' mode, life rafts & may wests at the ready. Ice creams, cakes, coffees, food, cowpats, all will be made with a smile & taken to the customer's table with a flourish. No one will know that we may be tired, grumpy & our feet may be dropping off, we hide it well. Cheese........................

I keep forgetting about the bank holiday. We have the Wooler show up here on Monday which I hope will be a success and the Life Boat fete also on Monday in Seahouses. Both events are usually heaving.

It has been a very quick summer indeed! Even the kids hols have flown!

What is with people buying up the supermarkets as if Armageddon is approaching? Drives me mad too. I've been wondering the same thing - have we all been conned and it's really November? Ansolutely freezing here today, wet and miserable.

Gracious and I didnt even know it was a bank holiday weekend over the otherside of the sleeve. How dire I used to hate them, the countryside filling up with aggitated townies unsure what they were doing there like lost homing pigeons with amnesia. I used to work on cross chammel ferreis where our standing orders included amongst the regs that we must smile at all times... after a while it all becomes very monty pythonesque doesnt it.. It is amazing how many expletives one can say through ones teeth under ines breath when smiling like a demented rabbit with lockjaw!! Bonne chance!!

ANOTHER bank holiday weekend?? It seems like every other weekend is a holiday. You'll be run off your feet if the weather is cooperative - good luck!

Keep going girl! I did laugh at the thought of you delivering the goodies to the punters with a smile - and I thought all the waiters and waitresses LIKED me!!

Thanks for the shoulder advice - I'm very grateful for all help.

Oh you capture it all so well...in Scotland only the banks seem to close for a bank holiday, nothing else, so you become oblivious to them. Campsite sounds good, happy farmer is considering having one, any advice would be welcome.
Hope you have a busy and successful bank holiday...and then enjoy all of the earnings on a well earned rest and some good old retail therapy! Posie

Good Luck over the Bank holiday, hope you get to sell loads of Icecreams, it's going to be warm I think. Bout time the sun came out!

Well do hope you don't get swamped by caravans, but least us British are determined to enjoy ourselves what ever the weather!

Campsite sounds good - we're thinking of similar.
So, so agree about the supermarkets and shoppers. Drives me nuts too.
Fabulously hot here today so hopefully it was with you too.

I usually work on bank holiday Mondays but not tomorrow - HURRAH. Will probably gather up a few of the family and set off for the woods, then back to my house for the BIGGEST bass I have ever had - courtesy of my nephew who frequently goes sea-fishing.

This is the only bank holiday when we venture out, as we always go to Malham Show and it's a big Harley Davidson gathering in our village, so we go up to watch them set off en-masse great noise
usually we hibinate during BHM

Soon the holiday people will be gone and life will return to normal. The end of the summer that never was!

We seem to end up with two 'half' Bank Holiday's up here as some seem to observe the 'English' Bank Holiday and then there is the Scottish Bank Holiday . . . fell foul of that the first year we were up here. Kept the kids off for the English Bank Holiday, only to discover the school wasn't shut!!!!!
