Vintage cars & other tail backs.....

l was only thinking to myself as l drove back from Bridlington this afternoon, that the traffic now seems to be continuous. There are a few good straight bits where you used to be able to put your foot down and break the speed limit, not anymore, you can barely make 45 mph. Where are these people coming from? Day trippers from Leeds or Hull perhaps, coming to partake in the bracing sea air & dine out on fish & chips? Commuters returning from a hard day at work? l guess probably a bit of both. Tourists or day trippers you can usually spot as they drive extremely s-l-o-w-l-y & forgo the use of indicators & breaks, plus the fact the driver is 9 time out of 10 an elderly chap whose wife is more than likely giving him an ear full. What is really awful, & a sign that 'The Season' is upon us is when you have to wait for the traffic to clear before pulling out of the drive onto the road. Merde

Oh for the quiet roads of yesteryear! That now leads my train of thought on to the Hull - Scarborough vintage car run which passes us sometime tomorrow morning. To me a car is a car. It ether goes fast or is not worth bothering about. The males in my family are what you could politely call petrol heads! My father is into anything that runs on an internal combustion engine whilst Hubby is Jag mad, & Harry? He's moved from steam trains to, can you guess? Cars! l suppose l ought to be pleased that none of them are sports buffs, that surely has got to be even worse. Sure l enjoy tennis, horse trials, dressage & sailing but cricket - yuk... football even yuckier [spelling?].

Lucy-Piglet was not feeling her normal bumptious self this morning. l don't know if it was because Gordon got the rabbit first, & being 'Top Dog' her nose was pushed out of joint or she had eaten something disagreeable. She put her self to bed with a labradorian flourish & removed to budge for a good few hours. l am pleased to announce there was not a lot wrong with her as she has partaken in her normal evening swim as usual. Incidentally the beach was wonderful this evening, the sea was flat - no sign of the harbour porpoise though - one solitary fisherman whom Gordon had to go and talk to, just in case he had a little something for him to nibble you understand! Who needs a psychiatrist when you have a beach at the bottom of your fields?

Thanks for your comments to my blog. My mission in life is to make sure my family don't look back and say that I was bitter and difficult. You can choose your friends eh?

I never told you before but being born and spending the early years in Hull and Leeds-my early years holidays were all Brid, Withernsea, Scarborough. +I took my boys to Whitby, which was my favourite place last year-when I was tripping down 'memory lane'.

Lovely blogs-didn't appreciate the connections with East Coast until you came over to this site and see photos.

warm wishes

Ps-I have a wonderful yellow lab!

Never been to Whitby but the daughter has been put on the waiting list for Camphill nearby, so if we win the battle with social services over funding I've no doubt we'll find ourslelves there at some stage. And yes, nothing beats a beach. My refuge everyday, whatever the weather. It just makes everything more bearable!

Know just what you mean, the roads are filling up. It's utterly unpredictable know how long a journey will take. Lovely dog. Hope (s)he's OK.

"Who needs a psychiatrist when you have a beach at the bottom of your fields?" Precisely my point madam!
Growing up in Leven, my dad was one of the few people who owned a car - well perhaps until the late sixties - but now, unless you are on a deprived council estate in Sheffield or Liverpool or Hull... everybody seems to be able to have access to cars. The road past Skidby to Hessle from Beverley was always a quiet byway but now - Jeez! Doesn't anybody stay home any more?

It's nice when Autumn arrives and we have our beautiful coastline back. Seahouses is beginning to resemble a small Blackpool in the high season whilst Bamburgh resembles an NCP carpark.
The A1 up here is like your stretch of 45mph. You sometimes wonder if you'll ever get where you want to go & whether you'll be turned into a 'wagon butty'.

I can't find the comments box for Sunday's blog! Where has it gone? As usual your lovely descriptions and piccies have left me very hungry, I mean, I am now fancying vanilla bourbon ice cream for breakfast!

And I completely agree with you about the roads, the last 10 years here has seen an enromous increase in traffic.

And Hello Yorkshire Pudding!! I used to have all my childhood holidays in a caravan in Leven!

A beach at the bottom of your field - yes that is a bit of heaven!
We know that spring has arrived and summer is on the way by the number of motorcycles that roar up and down our road. It is nice and hilly and windy, so I guess it is the next best thing to a race course. They make an awful racket!
