post holiday blues

Why is it when you come back off holiday everything is, well, flat. OK, so the piles of dirty washing aren't exactly 'flat' but, your brain is kinda of, well, out of it.

Anyway, less of the maudlin, back from holiday mood & back to the prose, or whatever this selection of poor grammar & spelling is termed as. Really, l think l should have stayed put, hidden in the olive groves & refused point blank to return to the chilly, autumnal weather of the east Yorkshire coast. brrr.

Not even back a week & already starting to sneeze. Could it be all that re-circulated air pumped around the aircraft cabin? Airlines, especially the charter ones have a lot to answer for. Take the food. Well, l think they call it 'food'. To me, being served up a rubber, rectangle of burnt pasta is not something l would term along the lines of food. A frisby perhaps, but not food. Then there are those over priced small tins of pop.......... Next time, l will buy my £4.50 sandwich & £2.50 bottle of plain mineral water & eat something a bit more recognizable as food, if not great value for money.

Less of the moans & groans. OK. Great holiday. Did very little except read, sit in the sun, swim & of course eat loads of yummy nosh! N E Corfu is tourism on a low key. Do they call it Kensington on Sea? Small coves, olive strewn hilly bits then mountains, dotted with villages, hamlets & villas. What l did notice this year was how very dry the undergrowth is. Normally at this time of year, the purple flowers of the wild cyclamen are carpeting the olive groves. This year, nothing but dead grass. No rain you see, well, ok, we had some rain, but there has been no proper rain for months so together with the heat wave, that has hit the eastern Med, everything is very dry indeed.

Ok I wouldn't have fancied your meal but sometimes I get quite excited by plane food even though I don't always know what it is. On the other hand I don't actually fly very much so it's still something of a novelty for me!

LIke Chris, I get a bit excited by plane food, the tiny burning rectangle, the surfeit of elbows in a confined space, the tears (children), the dropping of something red and mushy. What's not to enjoy??

Gorgeous photos of your holiday - made me long for some of that intense heat on the top of my head - can't remember when I last had to wear a sun hat - certainly not this past summer.
I'm with on airline food. One of my versions of hell is any Air Canada flight longer than two hours. Meal service consists of an attendent coming up the aisle with soggy boxed pizza or soggier sandwiches for sale at exorbitant prices. I generally board with my own sandwich and snacks these days and buy a bottle of water on board. Flying has lost all its glamour and appeal and is now just to be endured.

You don't sound your normal chirpy self, how outrageous to be sneezing, no wonder you might feel mizz. Take a walk down to that gorgeous beach of yours, it must be empty.

A tip for dealing with airline food:
Always book a veggie option, a, You will always be served first and it will still be freshish and hot
b. It is less likely to be harbouring some nasty bug that needs warm damp juices to feed on.

Know what you mean about airline food - we opted for the sandwiches this time. They were OK.

I might be slightly anti airline food because when we lived in Manchester one of the big student employers was a company which prepared said food. I was never able to get the image of grubby students (my own dear sons included) putting the meals together.

ah, the post vacation letdown, exacerbated by the post vacation cold.

the price we pay....

but the trip sounded well worth it. and no airplane food can taste good coming on the heels of lovely vacation noshing....

I'm sure it is something to do with the air con in planes - or it's just the downer of coming home that causes colds. I would love to run away and hide in an olive grove!

Glad your Corfu holiday was so lovely and relaxing... By the way you were right about Octon - that's a fine place to say final goodbyes to cherished loved ones...

It is always flat for a while after a holiday isn't it? Hope your blues have passed now.
