heat wave hits the East Coast

where has the sun gone now? l ask myself as l peer out from behind the curtains. Nothing but heavy grey skies chasing off into the distance to where the sea meets the sky. Grey sky. Grey sea. White horses crashing onto the beach. Surely, l think this IS July. Mid-july to be exact. Summer? Blue cloudless skies, miles of pristine sandy beaches, blue calm seas pepered with terns diving for sand eels, harbour porpoises performing their 'floor show spectacular'. Er well July it is but blue sky, souring temperatures?

Global warming or climate change, for the past few years has been flagged up as 'hotter drier summers', we all liked that now didn't we? So where has it gone wrong this year? Wet wet wet. & that's not just a pretty boy pop band.

The late winter & spring were wonderful. Mild & dry. From May onwards it has been downhill all the way. Rain, floods, tornadoes. Were does it all end? OK, so it DID rain on St Swithin's day but it had rained for the previous 40 days as well. Are we going to be able to put on our garish shorts & expose the old cellulite to the unsuspecting? Will we be able to get the bar-b-q out of the garage to burn the odd sausage or two? l really don't know. Marching about the fields today, the landscape looks more autumnal than high summer.

Well perhaps we should look on the bright side, at least there will be no hosepipe ban THIS summer.

15 degrees here today too. Brr. I keep forgetting I live in the middle now - when I read East coast, I think that's me, but we're actually behind all those hills.

I remember a post of yours from Easter or so about the sun bringing out all the under-dressed fatties and those men in cropped shorts with 'dainty' trainers - made me chuckle. At least we're being spared those now!

Hope to see you at the Game Fair - am trying to persuade husband to go, he is being Bah Humbug and saying it's like the Yorkshire Show, which he hates. All the horrid townies! Commoners, shudder! People with gundogs (who don't deserve them... a bit like me then?) being snooty and thinking they're special. He's a real Nazi.

I am told by an Egg Head on Radio 4 this morning its all due to the very hot weather in Europe, it appears the hot air get above the clouds which makes the storm clouds appears or something like that. all I know is I am fed up getting wet!!

I think it's all a ruse to give us Brits something to talk about - after all, what could we possibly think of to say to each other if we didn't have this awful, gloomy weather? Hmm, then again ...

Oh dear and by the sounds of it the weather is going from bad to worse. We have been really lucky here for the past couple of weeks, have had a few really hot days, and little rain.

I think we've all been conned and it's really November. Mmmmm, six weeks of entertaining the children in this weather looms.

It's no better here, Muddy. Today I am in long pants, a long-sleeved sweater and a fleece. We barbecued dinner in the rain and ate in the kitchen, as dining in the cold and damp isn't all that attractive. My roses are sodden clumps on the end of the canes.

I can tell you exactly when real summer weather will hit our island. The heatwave will begin on Monday July 30th and it will end suddenly on Thursday August 9th. How do I know this? Well this is the very time that Shirley and I will be in the south of France. Previous experience has shown that when we go on holiday England enjoys great weather.
