All this technology seem far removed from the folk law of times gone past. I remember one year's young farmers rally, the main exhibit competition title was 'old wives tales', ours club's was, 'make hay whilst the sun shines', another club had used the legend, 'if the cows are laid down then it is going to rain'.
Then there is global warming. Do we really think this is happening and if it is, can we really save the human race buy a mere change of light bulbs? The earth will survive what every happens, we are the ones who will become extinct going the same way as dinosaurs! The next generation of life in 20 million years time will be digging up our fossilized remains & wondering what happened to us! But there again is this heating up of the planet just a regular occurrence, something that has happened time & time again, followed by the big freeze?
Right then, is all this flooding, the second time in 6 months, to do with a change in the weather patterns? Who knows, but exporting all our industrial pollution to India & China in return for cheap consumer goods seems to give the impression of, well it's not in my back yard so why should l worry, but then don't put up wind farms near me please as they are an eyesore but l am doing my bit as l fill my 4wd with bio diesel and fit all my lights with the low energy, mercury filled light bulbs.......

Weather forecasts the bane of my life everyone has to be silent for the forecast, i can't believe the BBC have started to do 'feels like' temperatures how ridiculous this is pandering to the sissys that go around saying 'oo it's freezing' when it's a least 8degrees sorry I'll got on my high horse now
Hope you are well, haven't been over here recently you are not on my 'page' now, so not as easy to click on you
Yes, what you say is very true. I think most people think that they will be long dead before any real climate change happens.
Think we need to take climate change seriously but the real change needs to come at government level, but, yes, like you, I use low energy lightbulbs, recycle and try to control my carbon footprint. We are weather addicts here too - the difference between wet and dry, windy and calm is massive!
Here everyoen bar us has a home metoe station, you can buythem in every supermarket adn great store it set by them and by the farmers weather reports on the radio each morning..perhasp its just rural commnities in general?
It really is freezing here - or well below. I have just dragged my four year old three blocks in mimnus two (farenheit) degrees and I can't feel my face now!
Anyway, the pressing issue is whether or not there's any truth in the cows lying down thing. I grew up with that, and since it rains a lot in England, you can't really prove it wrong. My American husband and his family fall about laughing now whenever they see a reclining cow.
French are obsessed with the weather, when the suns out if its January they shiver !!
Is there a note of desperation creeping in Muddy?
I felt a bit desperate the other night. It was the middle of January and the middle of the night but the temp was 10 degrees F.
You are so right, the Earth will survive but humans' future looks very dodgy for so many reasons.
I hate the way the weather forecasters call rain bad news because a) I like rain (yes I know I am unusual) and b) we need rain and why is cold weather seen as 'bad' too, it's winter after all!
Weather forecast, lookin at wwwguernseyaeroclub.com/weather.htm it will give 14 days forecast, complete with sat/photo`s.Holidays in UK, 7day forecast is a must,The old Weather warnings, are either pre-warm front cloud or after cold front cloud,if you look at the Pressure systems and associated Weather, after a while, you will be able to make your own forecast. It may save you from a wet holiday.
I also repeat the one about cows lying down meaning it's going to rain.
I do feel for you after the floods of last year - I would also be keeping more than a weathereye on the sky...
I think that the weather is more important when you live in the countryside and do things outside, rather than move along concrete streets between buildings.
