sneeezes & snow

Ok. l am now ready for winter. My wood pile is stacked up & the central heating is just waiting to be turned up. Come on winter, l am ready for you! Slight problem though. The temperature here is 15'C. It feels mild & muggy. Germs abound. l am busy dying from my first cold of the season. My intake of single malt to which is added copious amount of lemon, honey & a wee bit of hot water has done nothing as yet to alleviate the symptoms. So here l sit with a nose to equal or surpass Rudolph's!

On a more serious note, this mild air is a slug's idea of heaven. What more could you ask for than warm, damp air & fields of juicy rape seedings just sitting there waiting to be eaten with gusto! Hence me saying come on winter it's not that l am a kill joy wanting the mild autumn to end, but it's just that all these bugs & slugs need a knock on the head, so to speak.

Winter can't be far off though, l note that Christmas adverts are appearing on the TV, what ever happened to waiting till after Bonfire Night before deluging the box with adverts for the latest must have gift / drink / supermarket food eh? And another thing, what happened to the good old All Hallows Eve & bobbing apples, why is it now trick or treating & everyone dress up in pumpkin suits?

Oh my god, l believe l am turning into a 'grumpy Old Woman', surely not........... l'm not old enough yet?

I know what you mean about Christmas adverts. My daughter has decided she wants all the toys she's seen advertised ... luckily, she soon forgets what she's seen! I think the trick or treat idea originated in America. And yes, you are far too young to be a grumpy old woman!!

I still have sweet peas in flower - and that is surely flying in the face of nature. Very mild here too.

I'm sure you're not a grumpy old woman - even my young sons moan about Christmas stuff going out in October.

you don't sound grumpy. that's a gorgeous picture of snowy trees; is that your picture?

and i'm with you on christmas advertising coming way too early. and halloween being overdone. not like the good old days.

hey, if you're grumpy, i'm just as grumpy!

I think I turned into a grumpy old woman years ago. With you on wanting a cold winter - and Christmas at the proper time! We are just organising a proper old fashioned apple bobbing party for Halloween, to make me feel righteously retro! Hope the cold improves.

Sorry but I did laugh at description of being busy dying of a cold! Keep taking the single malt, dear heart, and so what if the nose gets a touch red, soon you will forget both cold and red nose.

I wish the cold weather would hurry up too. I want to put my summer stuff away and I'm sick of the midgies.

Not at all grumpy. I do agree with you about the improbable thoughts of Christmas in Sept/Oct...far too soon. And as for trick or treating--abolish it!
Hope the cold gets better quickly.

You need some snow, that'll see off the slugs. Trouble is, won't do much for ice cream sales...

Not wrong with being a grumpy old woman - I am!

However, I am rather tickled by the Roy Wood/Argos advert ..

Hope the cold is better soon. Everyone at my work is also suffering - it must be the change of season.

Trick or treat ...hate it with a passion...buckets of cold water or the hosepipe likely at this door! Agree that we need a proper cold winter to regulate some of these bugs and beasties...I'm ready as well...bring it on and ban Christmas advertising before 30 November..or altogether...see if I care! Hope the cold is over soon.

Grumpy old women rule, OK!
If the single malt hasn't cured your cold yet - double or treble the quantities and forget about lemon and honey. It might not cure your cold but you won't care!

You and me both!! My boys are both Halloween mad! Am spending afternoon prepping for tomorrow's big event!

And Christmas!...Pah! Don't mention Christmas to me. Have 4 craft parties this week. But still I need to be organised if I am to get everything done. My own preps wait until 2 weeks before-usually after BBC SPorts personality of the year!!

I have come down with a lurgy since returned from Antiqua-awful throat and ear infection. Got some antibiotics this am. And after the heat out there I would welcome a lovely frost.

warm wishes
